Antonio Stradivarius

2007

Pigment ink and acrylic on canvas, 42 inches by 120 inches

This collage portraiture of the famous violin maker, Antonio Stradivarius (1644 - 1737), depicts the renowned luthier in three views, all based on historic portraits, and includes other visual elements such as one of his original violins; a 17th century map of Italy; Stradivarius's birthplace, Cremona in the Casalmaggiore region of Italy; the Cremona Concert Hall, where Sradivarius's violins were likely played; and an original17th century violin music score that would have been played on his violins. This mural was custom designed to suit the Stradivarius Suite at Chenery House, residence of Robert C. Pritikin, where it is installed.
