Nestled in the heart of San Francisco's vibrant historic Mission District amidst a vibrant community of artists, architects, film makers and vintners, Sutton Studios & Gallery is a beautiful 2,500 square foot facility with custom track lighting, 13' ceilings, 10' wide projection screen with surround sound, high speed wireless internet, wide format ink-jet printer, refreshment area, library corner, gallery, wet and digital painting areas, and seminar space. It is adjacent to excellent cafes and restaurants, is ten minutes from the city center, twenty minutes from San Francisco International Airport and is easily accessed by public transport (make use of the 511 Trip Planner). The 27 bus runs right in front of the studio door and the 22 passes within two blocks and connects with the Mission Street / 16th Street BART station.
The Studio is on the third floor of an industrial building, 1890 Bryant Street, that used to be part of a Best Food mayonnaise factory (hence the “BF” on the entrance way floor). The front door is on Bryant Street at the corner with Mariposa Street. Dial the studio number 306 on the dial pad to connect to the studio phone (415-641-1221). There is no door buzzer so you will need to wait a few minutes for me to come down from the third floor to let you in. If you have any problems getting in please try my cell phone 415-596-5011.
Driving Directions
Parking
Most afternoons, evenings, holidays and weekends it is easy to find free street parking immediately around the building (on Bryant, Mariposa and Florida streets). On weekday mornings free street parking is not so easy to find and for short visits you may wish to use the three hour free parking at the Potrero Center two blocks away (16th and Bryant). Another option for all day parking during the week (Monday to Friday) is the paid public parking lot (run by UCSF) about four blocks from the studio at 17th Street and Folsom Street (bounded by Shotwell Street). Do not leave any valuables or bags on show in your car (a recommended precaution where ever you park in San Francisco). If you park on the street always take a very good look at signs to make sure you are not parking during street cleaning hours or for more than two hours in a Resident Permit area (welcome to San Francisco!)
