Cityshapes: Motion, Body & Soul
2006
An artistic collaboration with modern dancer Tiffany Barbarash
Cityshapes: Motion, Body & Soul is a creative collaboration between myself and modern dancer Tiffany Barbarash. In this collaboration Tiffany and I explored the interaction and impact of the movement and forms of Tiffany's body as she danced amongst the dynamic diversity of shapes, textures, materials and forms offered by the rich tapestry of San Francisco's cityscape. I took photographs of Tiffany dancing in different locations around the city and then created a series of paintings based on these photographs. The world premier of Cityshapes: Motion, Body & Soul was performed at the Sutton Studios & Gallery Grand Opening Art Soiree in San Francisco on January 28th, 2006. At the premier saxophonist Lincoln Adler provided musical accompaniment to a live dance performance by Tiffany while my Cityshapes paintings and photographs were projected on a large screen.
The paintings (and performance) are divided into five Movements, with each Movement corresponding to a different location (and a different set of shapes and textures).
